Welcome to Second Grade

I am excited to start our year together. Please take some time to read about my teaching philosophy and classroom community. Much of the first month of school is focused on getting to know each other, creating shared expectations, learning routines, and assessing each student's academic and social emotional skills. This groundwork helps our classroom run smoothly and helps inform individualized teaching and learning. Key to creating a learning rich environment is a sense of community. We all share the space and, at times, may have different needs, but we can respect and support each other's learning.

This year we will explore many topics and themes but at the beginning of the year we focus on creating a welcoming community. We will also explore respect for differences, inclusion and how people in communities can stand up for justice. I am including a link to a social justice book list drawn from recommendations by State and National Teachers of the Year and Finalists for State Teacher of the Year. I am pleased to say that many of these titles are in our library and classrooms here at Glencoe. http://www.nnstoy.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/NNSTOY-Social-Justice-Book-List.pdf

If you haven't yet, please turn in any classroom money, registration forms and walking field trip forms.

Thank you!
