About Me

I graduated from Reed College with a History degree in 1988. I received my masters in General and Special Education in 2007 from DePaul University and began teaching for PPS. I started as a middle school special education teacher at Vestal. I was there for three years. I moved to Glencoe and taught one year of 5th grade and have been teaching second grade ever since. Before I became a teacher I worked with students in a variety of ways; I was a paraprofessional for several years, worked with the I Have a Dream program as an Americorps volunteer, and worked for 18 months at a school for students with severe autism.

I am an avid news and fiction reader, photographer and researcher. Walking in nature with my partner and little dog is one of my favorite ways to relax. I also enjoy dancing, playing music, travel and gardening.

Communication

My preferred method of communication is email (rhanes@pps.net). I try to respond within 48 hours. If you would like to schedule a meeting, I am typically unavailable after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays due to standing meetings. For informal questions or check ins, I am outside everyday after school for 10-15 minutes.
